DESCRIPTION:About the EventIf you missed this event last year\, be sure to join us on September 17 for a happy hour and newsroom tour with the Journal Sentinel! \n\n\n\nThe Milwaukee Journal Sentinel invites Greater Milwaukee Committee members to an exclusive open house and tour of the downtown newsroom on September 17 to explore our modern space and mingle with our journalists. \nAttendees will get a behind-the-scenes look at our fifth-floor office at 330 E. Kilbourn\, where staff moved in 2020 after the sale of the former Journal Sentinel building at 333. W. State St. \nCome chat with reporters\, editors and producers and learn more about our new community-funded reporting initiatives. GMC Member and Journal Sentinel Executive Editor Greg Borowski will host a series of quick\, casual stand-up talks. You’ll also meet some of our new grant-funded journalists who are helping us expand our local coverage – they welcome your ideas! Enjoy light refreshments as you connect with fellow GMC members and mingle with reporters from the state’s largest news organization. \nJournal Sentinel staff and/or building security will be stationed in the building lobby for the duration of this event to greet attendees and escort them up the secured elevators and into the 5th floor newsroom.  \nHosted by GMC member Greg Borowski.

SUMMARY:Member Meeting: Building a Transportation System for a Connected Milwaukee
DESCRIPTION:About the Event11:30am – Networking\n12:00pm – Meeting\n1:30pm – Adjourn \nDo we have the regional coordination needed to build the transportation system Milwaukee requires? \nThere are many variables to Milwaukee’s success\, including attracting talent\, developing housing\, and strengthening its economy. A major factor to this is transportation\, and how it must be viewed as a regional system\, rather than a collection of individual projects. Do we have the regional coordination needed to build the transportation system Milwaukee requires? \nThe Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (SEWRPC) is developing VISION 2060\, its next long-range land-use and transportation plan for the seven-county region. At the same time\, Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) is undertaking MCTS Forward\, a process that will help shape the future of transit in Milwaukee County through 2027. With several significant transportation planning efforts underway\, the GMC will bring together regional leaders to examine how these efforts connect and whether they are preparing Milwaukee for the future we want to build. \nThe conversation will provide a clear picture of how transportation decisions are made across the region and explore how responsibilities are divided among municipalities\, Milwaukee County\, the state\, transit agencies\, and regional planning organizations\, and where those divisions can create barriers to progress. \nGMC members will discuss what Milwaukee’s transportation system should look like to support a successful region\, expand housing\, attract talent\, and strengthen its economy. We will consider which investments and connections will have the greatest impact and where gaps may exist between the plans already underway and the regional outcomes we want to achieve. \nThe goal is to move from a collection of transportation projects and individual jurisdictions toward a more connected regional vision that supports the Milwaukee we want to become. \nThank you to Jim Kanter and the Wisconsin Center District for hosting.
