The Commons: Holding on to Milwaukee's best and brightest

If you've got your finger on Milwaukee's pulse, you've heard of The Commons by now. And if you can't seem to find Milwaukee's pulse, I'm here to help you out. (But first, call 911 and start CPR.) The Commons is an insanely cool collaboration that sits between three very important Milwaukee worlds – those being startup, corporate and higher education. It was born from an initiative by The Greater Milwaukee Committee focused on innovation and talent in the area, and to say it's been a hit wouldn't quite do it justice. Jason Rae, state Sen. Kooyenga among Milwaukee business leaders chosen for Harvard program

Jason Rae, founder and CEO of the Wisconsin LGBT Chamber of Commerce, state Sen. Dale Kooyenga (R-Brookfield) and Maggie Beckley of Advocate Aurora Health are among a group of 10 Milwaukee young professionals chosen to take part in the Young American Leaders Program (YALP) at Harvard University in June. This will be the second year that a group of Milwaukee executives was chosen to attend the prestigious four-day event to learn how to form innovative solutions to pressing issues in Milwaukee’s business community. Applications open for Scale Up Milwaukee Growth Accelerator

Applications are now open for the sixth cohort of the Scale Up Milwaukee Growth Accelerator, Scale Up Milwaukeeannounced this week. The accelerator, formerly called Scalerator, was revamped last year in partnership with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Its faculty now teach the five-month business growth training program, which covers sales and marketing; finance and operations; and management. An initiative of the Greater Milwaukee Committee, Scale Up Milwaukee’s mission is to help existing southeastern Wisconsin businesses accelerate their growth to drive economic development.
