The Greater Milwaukee Committee’s commitment to strengthening the City of Milwaukee’s long-term fiscal health continues to deliver meaningful results.
Recognizing the City’s growing structural budget challenges, the GMC raised funds for an independent Operational Review, providing city leaders with a roadmap to improve efficiency, identify cost savings, and generate new, sustainable revenue. This addressed both immediate fiscal pressures and positions Milwaukee for long-term financial stability and economic growth.
Following completion of the Operational Review, the GMC remained actively engaged by partnering with Jim Bohl, Director of the City of Milwaukee Office of Innovation, through the GMC’s Fiscal Strength Task Force. The Task Force served as a collaborative resource to help evaluate, prioritize, and advance recommendations from the report, with particular emphasis on shared services, cross-governmental collaboration, and vehicular-related policies and fees that could improve the City’s fiscal position.
The results have been significant. According to the Office of Innovation’s Biennial Report, the City has implemented numerous initiatives that modernize operations, improve service delivery, strengthen fiscal stewardship, and create measurable revenue and savings. Accomplishments include transportation and fee modernization, enhanced revenue collection, technology investments, operational efficiencies, and expanded partnerships with neighboring governments and other institutions. The Office also continues to advance enterprise modernization, AI tools, and additional shared-service opportunities that will improve the City’s long-term financial sustainability.
The GMC is proud to have played a catalytic role in this effort, from securing philanthropic investment to helping implement recommendations that strengthen Milwaukee’s fiscal future. This work reflects the GMC’s longstanding commitment to advancing innovative, collaborative solutions that position Milwaukee for sustainable growth and increased competitiveness.
